The largest of the StorageTek® series of Open Systems tape libraries, the
L5500 library can scale to 16.8 petabytes of capacity and up to 132,000 slots.
This enormous capacity makes the L5500 library an ideal solution for
consolidating Open Systems backup and restore and eliminating the management
burdens that come with maintaining multiple smaller storage systems.
Applications
Backup and restore -
The L5500 library’s enormous capacity makes it ideal for consolidating Open
Systems backup and restore across a data center or an enterprise. Consolidating
backup and restore to a single library reduces costs, simplifies management and
improves reliability of backup and restore processes.
Disaster recovery -
The L5500 library is an integral part of site-wide disaster recovery processes
that remotely vault data in tape form. Tapes can be physically transported to a
remote site, created electronically with an L5500 library at the remote
location, or created simultaneously at both locations.
Fixed content distribution -
The L5500 library can act as a high-volume source for fixed content data,
especially when outfitted with fast-access T9840 tape drives. High-speed fixed
content distribution systems can utilize the L5500 library in a disk-and-tape
storage environment controlled by StorageTek® Application Storage Manager® (ASM)
software to reduce costs without impacting performance.
Archiving -
The L5500 library is an efficient, high-capacity repository for archival data.
It can be combined with disk systems and Application Storage Manager (ASM)
software to provide a tiered archival system with performance and capacity
customized to the archiving needs of the application.
Features and IT Benefits
Easier management -
Scalability to 132,000 slots and 960 drives allows you to consolidate data in a
single, easy-to-manage library, easing the strain on your IT resources.
Enterprise-class reliability -
The L5500 library is based on StorageTek’s proven PowderHorn™ 9310 tape library
and its superior robotics’ extreme reliability.
Faster throughput -
With data throughput speeds up to 103.7 terabytes per hour, the L5500 tape
library delivers the performance you need to respond to shrinking backup windows
and increase data availability.
Seamless library sharing -
StorageTek ACSLS Manager™ software provides seamless connectivity for libraries
attached to multiple hosts running different tape management applications
simultaneously.
Automated Cartridge System Library Software (ACSLS Manager) -
StorageTek ACSLS Manager™ software is a UNIX-based library-management
application for mainframe, AS/400, UNIX and NT platforms. ACSLS Manager
functions as the central service provider for all library operations. It
efficiently shares library resources with any application on any system.
Options
Number of cartridge slots -
1,500, 2,000, 2,500, 3,000, 3,500, 4,000, 4,500, 5,000 or 5,500 per library
storage module (LSM) for configurations supporting only LTO Ultrium or 1,000
T9x40 and 1,000 LTO Ultrium or 1,500 T9x40 and 1,500 LTO Ultrium or 2,000 T9x40
